Memory Care or Traditional Assisted Living — Which is Right for You or Your Loved One?Memory Care and Assisted Living share many of the same features, including residential / community living, assistance with activities of daily living, personal care, activities programming, medication management, and community dining. Although assisted living residents may receive some help with daily activities, they can live independently in an apartment or studio accommodation. A robust schedule with a broad range of activities is designed to engage residents. You can learn more about Assisted Living at Bridgeway Senior Healthcare here and view a sample of an Assisted Living activities calendar here. Memory care is a dedicated, long-term care residential community designed to provide enhanced safety measures in a structured environment to enhance the quality of life for people with memory impairment, such as Alzheimer’s or dementia. Every aspect of the community from activities to the facility layout to safety features is intentionally designed to benefit those with cognitive conditions. A similar level of personal care assistance and community dining, as one would find in traditional assisted living, is a part of the memory care lifestyle. While accommodations do not include a kitchen for safety reasons, memory care communities feature natural light, calming colors and inviting community spaces. Activities are designed to engage residents without contributing to anxiety, a common symptom of dementia. A routine schedule of activities focusing on memory care, such as exercise, arts and crafts, brain fitness (puzzles and games), and music therapy, contribute to a sense of comfort and security. At Bridgeway Senior Healthcare, our Assisted Living and Memory Care communities are distinguished from others by a family of coordinated healthcare services that is always available to our residents.
