Bridgeway’s physical therapy team provides services that develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability to each of our patients. This includes our orthopedic surgery recovery service. Movement and function may be threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors. Our occupational therapists help patients perform all types of activities, from using a computer to caring for daily needs such as dressing, cooking and eating. Occupational therapists use physical exercise and other activities to increase strength and dexterity, and to improve visual acuity, or the ability to discern patterns.
For example, one of our patients with short-term memory loss was encouraged to make lists to aid recall, and another patient with coordination problems performed specific exercises to improve hand-eye coordination. Occupational therapists work with our patients to assess their homes for hazards and to identify environmental factors that contribute to falls, both of which are important for independent living.
