Visit each assisted living facility several times, paying attention to how staff members interact with residents and how residents behave (are they in good health and happiness?). It's a good idea to accompany your loved one on tour and stay put to eat in the dining room or participate in an activity.

Look for signs of high-quality care throughout your visit to each community, such as people who are happy and well. Confirm that several activities and events are given each day and weekly opportunities to leave the building and visit the neighborhood by requesting an activity calendar. Finally, look at the weekly menu and inquire whether cooks can accommodate your loved one's unique tastes or dietary requirements.

While on tour or when speaking with employees, you might want to inquire about the following:
